Shopping for a matric dance dress may seem like an overwhelming experience, but we've got you covered. From timeframes to fitting appointments, we've outlined a few important aspects of the process so you know what to expect, and when to get started.
When should I start shopping for my matric dance dress?
The best time to start shopping for your matric dance dress is between January and March, assuming your dance is between August and October of the same year.
This is just after the new dress collections have been released for the year. By shopping in these months, you’ll see the most dresses possible, before any styles get sold out.
Leading Rose Boutique can also order dresses seen on the websites of the brands we stock, so if you can’t find a particular dress on our website, check with us to see if we can source it for you. Just allow 3 to 4 months for ordering, depending on stock availability.
Your matric dance dress fitting appointment
Do I need to book an appointment to try on dresses?
Yes, you'll need to book a fitting appointment.
Who should I bring to my fitting appointment?
It's better to only bring one or two close friends or family members, so you don’t get too many conflicting opinions.
What should I wear to my fitting appointment?
Wear an outfit that is easy to change in and out of.
Don’t wear too much makeup. You don’t want to leave a foundation or mascara stain on any of the dresses while trying them on.
You can wear a strapless bra, but all our dresses already do have a built-in bra, so there's no bra shopping needed, which is always a bonus.
Tips for trying on matric dance dresses
Try on a few different styles to see what suits you, and keep an open mind. Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone, and try on different dress styles. Even if you have a specific style in mind, you might be surprised by what looks best on you.
Choosing a colour – should be based on what suits your skin tone and also your own preference.
Decide if you want a sleeveless, strapless, or short-sleeve dress.
Decide which style you prefer: a Mermaid, A-line, Slimfit or a Ballgown.
Feel the fabric and quality of the dress. See how it drapes on your body and highlights your figure.
Don’t try on dresses your family member or friend suggest if you know 100% that you will never pick the dress for yourself - but do try on the ones that makes you think twice, they are worth trying on because just maybe it is the one that suprises you.
Plan for dress alterations
Most dresses will require some alterations to ensure a perfect fit. Give yourself ample time for alterations to avoid any last-minute stress.
